State inspection?

Has anyone gotten their vehicle inspected in the past few months? Did you stay in the vehicle the whole time or was it business as usual?

I want to get it done and over with so I can get my new tags, but I'd have to take my toddlers with me. I'd rather not expose them to anything if I don't have to.
