SP W-L deceiving, pt 2
Framber is not only SP where W-L record is belied by stats.
Last night, Mariners SP George Kirby was terrific. Came in 7-7. Looked at his game logs, and 11-4 would have better reflected his season so far. No cheap wins, and some terrific outings resulting in Ls and n/d. Gotta tip your cap when pitcher does that to us.
Tonight, same thing: in 17 starts, Luis Castillo is 5-6.
[below, indicates QS. (9).Here goes:
5 Wins had ERs of 0-0002. (no cheapies!)
6 losses had ERs of 4-5-132-2^ (deserved 1st 2 Ls).
6 n/d had ERs of 023-2-4-4 (7ip in both 4s)
Shortest outing 5.0ip
Sooooooo. Some good fortune is always a pleasant possibility, but sometimes we gotta do it the old-fashioned Astro way:
KEEP it close and get to their BP as early as possible. Elevating Castillo’s pitch count is a function of hits and plate discipline (and, of course, plate discipline begets better pitch counts and tastier pitches, which = more hits).
Easier said than done? Yes
Can we do it? Yes
