Son of Buc-ee's co-founder arrested on 28 counts of invasive visual recordings The co-founder of Buc-ee's son was arrested and charged in Travis County this week in connection with 28 charges of allegedly creating "invasive visual recordings" of visitors invited to various properties.
Mitchell Wasek, 28, the son of Buc-ee's co-founder Don Wasek, allegedly recorded a woman and her friends in his father's lake house through a hidden camera in a charging port plugged into the wall of a bathroom, according to court records obtained by KXAN. The charges were filed in the 167th District Court in Austin.
According to the records, the group of friends found the micro SD card in the camera and discovered several videos of themselves and other people in the bathrooms and bedrooms at the lake house, and at Mitchell Wasek's apartment in Dallas.
There were 68 video files with at least 13 individuals recorded, "using toilets, showering, changing clothes, and/or having sex," according to the affidavit. KXAN also reported the affidavit stated the videos were found to have been recorded in multiple locations, dating back to 2021, which also included a downtown Austin condo and a vacation home in Colorado owned by Mitchell Wasek's parents.
KXAN also obtained Amazon purchase records that linked the purchases of "spy cameras" to Mitchell Wasek.
The Chronicle reached out to Mitchell Wasek's lawyer, but his lawyer has not yet supplied a comment on behalf of his client.
According to the Travis County District Court, a warrant was issued for Mitchell Wasek's arrest last Friday. Mitchell Wasek was arrested Tuesday and was released on a $280,000 bond — representing $10,000 per charge. According to Texas law, invasive visual recording is a state jail felony, punishable by 180 days to two years in state jail and a fine of as much as $10,000.
