Some Davis Mills random stats that I’m trying to understand.
I woke up randomly and I can’t go back to bed so all of you will have to endure this with me…
I was reading a post on r/NFL about Baker Mayfield and it was incredibly detailed with not just stats but explanations and I started becoming very curious about our General.
Here are some things that I’ve found
Home vs. Away
Mills has a damn good 109.6 passer rating at home, but a pretty disasterous 63.1 passer rating while away. So we all know there is a home field advantage with crowd noise, weather and even game play but i wanted to know if there was more. is Davis Mills going to struggle on the road?
His two worst games were against Buffalo and the Colts on the road and he was so bad that it skewed the results drastically.
For comparison sake Mac Jones had a passer rating off 97.5 at home and 85.4 away. That’s an acceptable difference.
Mac Jones worst game was with Buffalo but it was at home, so it didn’t skew the results so bad.
Conclusion: No, Mills does not have a big issue playing on the road. it was simply the team & conditions just happened to be incredibly poor on the road this season.
WR depth
Mills looked great, especially with Mills, but what would happen if Cooks was out for an extended period of time? Can Mills elevate others? Would he regress if Cooks is out for 8+ games?
Davis Mills has a passer rating of 130.6 without Brandin Cooks in his career.
Davis Mills has a passer rating of 85.8 with Brandin Cooks in his career.
Now, this was interesting because the post i was looking at earlier discussed Mayfield’s rating with and without OBJ and Baker did better without OBJ. So I looked into this further.
Cooks was available during Mills worst games as discussed above, Buffalo & Colts and so I don’t think I can draw any conclusion from this. I’m curious if anyone has any other thoughts about this.
Just a few things that popped up in my head.
