Solo travel to Houston!

Hi there, I’m inquiring about a solo trip to Houston that I’m taking next month. I have yet to get an Airbnb. I’m browsing some places near Montrose and somewhere named River Oaks. I’ve never been to Texas and I’ll be flying out after my trip from St. Thomas. Any recommendations or tips? Just so I can be safe but also have fun? Thanks.
