social spots suggestions

I’m 22M and moved to Houston about a year ago to study. I haven’t had much luck making friends—maybe it’s my social skills, but I also don’t really know the city. The few attempts I’ve made haven’t worked out, and it’s been tough finding places to hang out or spend my time. I’m sure this has happened to many, I wanna ask yall for any tips on finding safe places or specific recommendations on places where you can socialize freely?
