Small game hunting, living in Houston TMC

Hi everyone, I just got into shooting and gun ownership, and was looking to try hunting, I heard Sam Houston National Forest is the place to go, but I don't know what to do? I'm interested in Rabbit hunting because I love rabbit meat and seam easy enough for a beginner.

I bought a hunting license, and I have a Glock 19 and Glock 44, I will try hunting with Glock 44, and if hunting is for me and I enjoy it, I plan to buy a Ruger 10/22 Carbine Rifle.

Where can I meet other hunters or go on a one day hunting trip for example with experienced hunters? I don't know anyone who is even interested in trying hunting.

I work in a Research Lab as a postdoc and I'd really love to go to the wild in the weekend and decompress from the city and lab life.
