Singleton So Far (better than some of you think)
I'm seeing a lot of people say they're over Singleton already, which judging by the really small sample would be silly even if he were doing badly, but he's actually doing ok so far.
Here are his stats since joining the Astros:
32 PA, 2 HR, .160/.344/.400
21.9 BB%, 12.5 k%, .333 wOBA and 113 wRC+
Don't let the batting average fool you, while not all star numbers by any means he is above league-average everywhere it matters so far.
League-average OBP this year is .320, thanks to all the walks Singleton draws he overcomes the poor batting average to have a solid .344 OBP. Even the batting average is deceptive, he's had a lot of hard contact hit directly at fielders, so I'd expect his BA to go up with a larger sample. If anyone more fangraphs-literate than me can find his xBA specifically for the Astros this year drop that below.
So overall he's been above average getting on base, his strikeout rate is impressive, and we can probably expect a decent clip of homers. With Abreu out anyway he should be given the time he deserves to show what he has.
