Since the start of the 2022 season, Bryan Abreu has given up 2 or more runs two times. In the same time period, Ryan Pressly has allowed 2 or more runs 8 times, including 3 times this season already.
Not saying Abreu should be our closer right now (though he would be closing for all but 4 or 5 other teams), but he has been significantly better than Pressly since the start of 2022. His ERA+ is in the mid-200s since then while Pressly's is in the low 100s. Pressly was nails in the playoffs last year but he has been prone to implosions like yesterday that Abreu simply hasn't been.
Abreu is clearly the closer of the future; the question is simply when, not if.
