Signing Brock Osweiler in 2016 led us to get C.J. Stroud and WAJ.

In 2016, the Texans sign Brock Osweiler. In 2017, the Texans trade Osweiler to the Browns after streaky play to move up in the draft and acquire Deshaun Watson. They also send their 2018 first round pick (4th overall) in the trade. In 2019 the Texans trade for Tunsil to give Watson help in the OLine. They send their 2020 first round pick and 2021 first and second round picks to Miami in the process, seemingly in a win-now move. At the same time, just like in 2018, they are leaving the franchise without any first round talent to build around Watson. In 2020 the Texans(BOB) trade DeAndre Hopkins, upsetting Watson. They also fire GM and HC O’Brien. In 2021 the Texans hire Nick Caserio as GM, which makes Watson ask for a trade. They then draft QB Davis Mills in the 3rd round. In 2022, the Texans trade Watson to Cleveland for 3 first round picks. Davis Mills also makes TWO miraculous 4th down plays to lead the Texans to a week 18 victory, giving Houston the 2nd overall pick. In 2023, the Texans select QB C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr with the 2nd and 3rd overall pick after trading back up using their Browns pick while also sending their own first round pick in 2024 to the Cardinals to complete the trade. The team then beats the Browns in the playoffs to make sure the first round pick they kept in 2024 is higher than the one they traded. In 2024, C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. win OROY and DROY for the 2023-24 season, becoming only the 4th duo of rookies on the same team to win the awards in NFL history. To recap, without Osweiler, we don’t get Watson. Without Watson, we don’t get Laremy Tunsil or Davis Mills. Without Davis Mills, we don’t get C.J. Stroud. Thank you, Brock Osweiler, for being a stupid, yet miraculous spark that the Texans needed to become what they are today. submitted by /u/ReeferRicky |
