Should we take a deep look at Carlos Santana?

Surface level, his 2022 was not very good. However, a deeper dive reveals he might have some huge upside for 2023:

– He sported a BB% of 14% which was good for 5th best league wide.

– His K% was only 17% which is good for 46th in all MLB but 2% below league average

– His hard hit % and Contact % were both well above league average at 35.10% and 80.50% respectively

– He posted the 6th best OAA for 1B all year

All of this combined with the ban of the shift in 2023 make Santana an intriguing target for us if the other top 1B FA are too expensive. I fully expect his BA just see a sharp increase because of this and his batted ball data shows he will trend upward when not facing the shift as a lefty.

All in all, I think Santana deserves some serious consideration if we can't get Bell or Abreu. Of course, all of this is assuming Yuli is not our starting1B which I can't imagine he will be. Thoughts?
