Seeing parallels to Hurricane Helane disaster response
I saw a North Carolina thread talk about how residents are harassing linemen about getting power back on. Reminded me of what occurred after Hurricane Beryl.
I guess it doesn’t matter where you live, desperation can make anyone a asshole apparently.
I absolutely feel for those who are dealing with the aftermath of HH. What they are going through in NC is absolutely horrific.
What makes me really upset though are the comments from outsiders victim blaming residents. “You should have left.” “You get what you vote for.” “Get a generator.” “You should have been prepared for this.” Etc…
I hate how humanity really reveals it’s dark underbelly in times of crisis. People are so quick to offer judgment and condemnation rather than empathy and compassion.
Hurricane Helene really scared me though. We were “lucky” Beryl wasn’t nearly as destructive, but it was still awful to go through that. We went a week without power, but at least we still had our home and limited tree damage. I just fear the next hurricane that comes. I hope I’m well prepared.
