Scary experience Kayaking Near Nassau bay.

Hey today my wife and I went kayaking on Nassau bay near my apartment. It was low tide, I live on a marina that extends into the bay. This was our 4th trip and first trip in the morning. While kayaking through the marina I kept sneaking up on gar and having them panic and swim away. They were smaller but still enough to create some waves. My wife was unaffected. At one point I felt one hit my kayak after startling it.

At the midway point between our launch and the marinas mouth my wife ran into her first gar and it scared her so we turned around. It happened about 3 times to her, in a short span on the way back, she was panicking and I was trying to calm her so she wouldn’t tip. I kept explaining we were just sneaking up on them so they were getting scared and splashing.

As I was explaining this a massive explosion happened right at the nose of my kayak, something huge had hit the top of the water in front of me. We both were shaky from the wave and scared so we rushed to get back to our launch spot.

When we made it back to the launch we both just relaxed and watched the sunrise before getting out for about 15 minutes in peace.

As we were pulling the kayaks onto land another massive explosion hit the top of the water in the middle of the lake.

The area where we kayak has had 2 alligators in a span of a few years, they are very rare here. I fish that lake all the time and know their are giant gar inside, I’ve caught one In that area and see them all the time they breach the surface and submerge looking like nessy.

After leaving I recalled that our last trip I had turned around because I kept seeing a big gar hit the top of the water at the midway point of the marina.

Did we piss off a gar and have it follow us that whole time fucking with us?

Has this happened to others around clear lake and such?

I know gar aren’t scary or mean, that’s why the experience was so strange.

TLDR; big scary fish in water, me don’t want to fall into water.
