Safety and convenience of Hermann Park

Hi all , currently living in Sydney Aus and will be moving in an apartment near Hermann park for a family members treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Centre and am just wondering about the safety eg. walking in streets around the area (University place and Hermann Park) and whether there are any supermarkets / grocers within walking distance to Hermann Park as the closest one I can see is H-E-B which is about 1.5kms away .
