Safe affordable areas to live?

Can anyone point me to the safer more affordable places to live in Houston? I moved from NYC 6 months ago and I currently live in northwest Houston, about 10 minutes from Cypress. I’ve conversed with a number of H-town natives and they’ve told me anywhere along westheimer is good for the most part. Others have told me uptown or near the galleria. Ive been told to stay away from southwest (bisonnet, gessner etc). I feel like that doesn’t really help as i would like to narrow my search as soon as possible.

For background im a black woman working remotely in IT. I live with my brother who will also be working remotely in IT. Our combined income is pretty solid so in terms of budget i would say $1500 max for a 2 bedroom. A higher end apartment would be great(marble countertops, silver appliances etc). I would like to stay on the west side of houston(idk if that makes sense… west of 610?). Im also open to katy and the cypress area but i need a starting point for my search. I hope im not rambling on but i really want to move into a nicer apartment in a safe community. I got my car broken into 3 months after i moved here (which is insane because ive lived in NYC my whole life and my car has never been vandalized haha) so i just want to be in a place where i have peace of mind.

I’ve absolutely loved every minute i’ve been here. now i just want a nice place to come home to after a day/night of fun 🙂
