Roger “TV Schmoney” Goodell
Not really related to Azeez at all, but it got me thinking about how often the NFL claims player safety but then shafts their franchises in order to cram in as many “prime time” games as possible into an already long ass season.
I know we are not alone in the grind that we have coming up (Bal, KC, Pitt & Hou) all have the same shitty schedule of 3 games in 10 days for weeks 15-17, but I really wanna know who the hell designed this years NFL schedule bc it’s a cluster f**k.
I’ve seen tweets, posts, articles all year asking why there are so many non contact injuries in the NFL these days, and why you could make a Pro Bowl roster out of the IR. Which I also believe ties into not only why we see so many injuries (especially non contact) in the Prime Time games (MNF, SNF, TNF) but also why many of the prime time games are just some gross ass games. The teams are banged up, exhausted and just trying to survive and advance.
Through out the season, 9 teams got shafted by the 3 games in 10 days. And outside of the Holiday games (which are still Prime time, but slightly different) all of the issues are caused by the same pattern of Monday Night Football, Sunday Game, Thursday Night Football.
This pattern is fucking strange as hell to me for the NFL to stretch the league thin like it has, when the alternative is 1000% times better. Not only does the Prime Time sandwich increase the likelyhood of Injuries, but it also just straight up decreases the quality of the product that the NFL is providing. By craming a team into 2 prime time games over 10 days, there is no spacing out between appearances. imo this is why as a viewer, the weekday, night games (MNF/TNF) have really felt repetitive. I’ll sit down for MNF and be like wait didn’t I just have to watch the fucking Jets struggle to move the ball like 2 days ago??
It would be one thing if it just had to be structured this way bc the NFL was trying to make sure fans got the best product possible, but realistically it just seems like they had 2 diff people make the MNF & TNF schedule and just slapped it together, bc there is no benefit to the NFLs product by having teams play back to back like that.
I get teams playing multiple / a lot of prime time games, and I’m not going to complain about teams like the cowboys or Chiefs getting what feels like every prime time game. to me that’s fine and makes sense bc of viewership, brand, and Jerry and Hunt bullying Roger for them.
what is the fucking point of the way this season was scheduled? Like you can argue “Roger just loves that TV money”, but it’s not like having shitty prime time games increases revenue or that having the electric Drew Lock v Cooper Rush game will thicken the NFLs profit margin. Roger can’t even be goddamn Greedy correctly.
Below is a breakdown of the teams that had this impact their season, which I did notice while writing this that a lot of these teams either had their entire season derailed by their 10 day stretch or are just now finally recovering from the injuries / impact of the wack ass schedule.
