Renting in Houston with fair credit

Hello

So I am trying to rent an apartment in Houston, and I would be a first time renter, but I am nervous about getting approved.

I make around 7-8k a month and have fair credit as I have a charge off in my account since I wasn’t very smart when I was younger. If anyone could ease my mind or help me with knowing if I could still be approved for a nice apartment in the loop if I qualify the income requirements but I’m not sure if my credit would impact the decision. I don’t have anyone to co-sign by the way.
