Renting in Houston

Up for a promotion and possible relocation to Houston, family of 4 single salary income around 75k . Current debt to income is around 36% without costs of healthcare. Job would be near Aldine. Already have in mind rent will be near 1200+ , max around 1500. Rent bills and utilities is around 500-700 from what I see. I’d prefer 15-30 minute commutes.

My main questions are what areas do I want to completely avoid? Weather wise, I’m coming from southern California, are tornadoes a Big thing year round? I’ve looked it up on google and there’s articles that say it’s better than Dallas and others say avoid Houston. Any advice on what to do for smaller toddlers? Schools, theme parks, museums? And if my Rav 4 would make it through year round weather conditions? I appreciate all info
