Ren Fest with kids- any tips?

Texas Ren Faire – question about going with kids

I’m planning to take my niece (5) and nephew (9) to Texas Ren Fest Nov 5 for the Heroes and Villains weekend. I’ve been before myself and I’ve looked up the “for kids” activities- but wanted to ask if anyone had tips on what might be worth making time for and what can be skipped. Like- camel / elephant rides sound exciting but are they? Or are they just depressing seeing camels and elephants walk in a circle?

Both kids love animals, learning, crafts, etc. My niece loves gymnastics so I wanted to make time for the Clan Tynker show, nephew loves animals so I wanted to get him to birds of prey. I also definitely want to get them to the fire whip show and at least one round of the joust. Any other tips? Which crafts are unique or cool enough to make time for (and spend money on)? Are any of the rides / activities decent or are they just time-killers?

Thanks in advance. Any and all “ren fest with kids survival tips” for this kid-free aunt are also appreciated.
