relocating to Houston

Hi im an 28f asian moving to Houston from CA. Yes another Californian moving to Texas. It's just so expensive to live in CA and I want to provide myself a better life alone elsewhere. I recently got out of a two year relationship and want a change of scenery.

I'm looking for an area that's safe because I'll be living alone with my dog and will need to walk him everyday. Would like to live somewhere lively near other young professionals to make friends easier and would like to near asian food/grocery stores.

I heard Sugarland is where a lot of asian people live but I also heard Midtown is nice? I like living in mid/high rises.
