Recycling at multi-tenant properties. thoughts? ideas? workarounds?

See BOMA statement below. Thoughts? If you agree with this stance, can you please include suggestions* for how to allow businesses within your buildings to most easily implement recycling without your direct support?

*for those not in Houston, please note that tenants in smaller businesses ARE able to contract with the city for recycling pickup at the streetside, just like a resident, but it is trickier to do in larger multi-tenant buildings and also quite rare to find recycling in residential buildings.

From Houston's BOMA, Building Owners and Managers Association:

Commercial Recycling Program

The City of Houston created a Resource Recovery Implementation Committee (RRIC) focused on ways to reduce waste from businesses and institutions. A Houston BOMA Legislative Advisory Committee member served on this committee.

The group produced a document with recommendations for the city regarding the next steps for Public Works. As a member of the RRIC, Houston BOMA was able to append a letter to the final report making it clear that we do not favor mandatory recycling.

Mark Wilfalk (Director of Solid Waste Management) presented the draft report to the Mayor's office. They anticipate presenting it to the City Council Quality of Life Committee in April.

Houston BOMA will continue to monitor this issue.
