Recommendations for a place to stay in the Texas Medical Center area?

I'll be traveling with my mom there next month. Every apartment I find on Airbnb has okay reviews, but when I go to look it up on Google lots of residents always seem to talk about robberies in broad daylight? I just need a place I can leave an elderly woman at home alone for ten hours a day with peace of mind.
