Receiving noise complaints from downstairs neighbor
Hi guys, I needed some advice on what to do about my downstairs neighbors. I live in a mid rise apt and me and my boyfriend moved in a little over a month ago and the courtesy officer has visited us about three times about noise complaints.
Our neighbor downstairs claims that there are a lot of “stomping”, “moving furniture”, and “dropping heavy items” past midnight.
I admit the first time the courtesy officer came we were putting together some furniture late at night, but after the first visit we stopped all furniture building and moving at 8pm.
We have been really cautious of our movement. In order to accommodate our neighbor downstairs we started wearing soft foam shoes to muffle our footsteps and we put in some carpets in our bedroom and living room.
(I forgot to mention that I’m a nightshirt RN and my boyfriend is a bartender, so we’re usually up at night and asleep during the day. )
The complaints haven’t stopped and now we received a lease violation notice. The leasing office seems to be understanding of our situation but I’m not sure whose side they’re on. The leasing office told me that the downstairs neighbor had video recording of us rolling our desk chair and loud footsteps.
On the third visit from the courtesy officer he claimed to have gone into our neighbors apt and listen to the noise and said “there was no excessive noise, and maybe your neighbor is just sensitive to noise.”
I feel like this is just daily living and I can’t do anything about this. We haven’t had any sort of gathering in our apt nor have we been blasting music or working out here. It’s just us moving around in our apt, the latest complaint of noise was when I dropped my phone in the living room.
This is getting really draining now and I don’t want to move if my neighbor is just sensitive to noise. I really love my unit and I haven’t had any issues or complaints other than my downstairs neighbor.
