Re: Those Giving Tennis Lessons w/o Permit

Tl;dr: Who do you report people giving tennis lessons without a permit to? Has anyone had luck calling the “misuse of the park” phone number on the park signs?

Backstory: My buddy and I have been playing 10s around The Heights, Washington, and Memorial area for about two years. The most convenient and one of our favorite parks is Jaycee, in the Timbergrove area.

At the park, there’s two courts: one in great condition and the other ridden with cracks, but still playable. We play after work and used to have no problem getting a court here, until recently. Like clockwork, Mondays and Wednesdays, there is some lady who gives lessons to a high school player at the same time we play, always on the good court, of which last over two hours, even when there are at least two groups in line, waiting to play.

We both feel as if she doesn’t have a permit given the length of her lessons (use is limited to an hour), seeing her wait in line to obtain a court (which you wouldn’t expect with a permit?), and she has tried asking us to switch courts because hers was wet.

Don’t get me wrong, love seeing the game get more popular, at least kinda lol, and I normally wouldn’t look to snitch on this lady, but the fact that she uses the good court for lessons, for over the considerate amount of time just irks me. If you’re going to be giving lessons, wouldn’t you think to leave the good court for those actually playing sets?

Yes, there’s plenty of other courts and, yes, we could reserve one at Memorial, but I prefer a divider between courts. Rant over and any help and/or suggestions are appreciated!

Edit: Thanks for the advice! I’m probably going to do a combo of a few of y’all’s suggestion, first quitting my job to try and beat her there; if that doesn’t work, ask her out; if she says no, ask to at least take a lesson or two so she could warm up to me; and if none of that works, I’ll probably just call the park K9 police to take all her tennis balls.
