Rave: Patty Melt at Kenny and Ziggys

Today I was enlightened.

I've been to Kenny and Ziggys a number of times over the years, but I usually stick to sandwiches, matzo ball soup, or breakfast. I'm generally a fan of the food, and my father, an NY native, insists we visit when he's in town. The fancy burgers at K&Z, like most of the food there, is all super decadent. I wasn't in the mood for pastrami, or queso on my burger, so I decided to go for the classic PM.

Lets get down to it: The thick rye bread was grilled perfectly, with a nice crunch complimenting the oozy cheese and sautéed onions. The burger was medium rare, a "steak" burger, a combination of short rib and skirt steak. Because I'm a spice chaser, I added fresh grilled jalapeños. The combination was outrageously good. The only downside was the bottom of the burger was greasy, but the rye bread did a great job of containing it all, so nothing fell apart. Overall it was a fantastic decision, and if there is a better PM in Houston, i haven't found it yet.
