Question for fellow apartment hunters/renters

Hey all, Been looking for a new apartment to move into since our current place increased rent by $200/mo since moving in about 2 years ago. It’s no longer worth this price because of the blatant lack of features, but I digress.

When applying to this complex back in 2021, they only required W2 forms for the tax portion of the application. Now, looking at this next (and unfortunately first choice) establishing, they’re requiring 1099 forms. Admittedly we are skeptical to provide such forms because of the extensive information that can be found in these (with roughly 107 pages) and the property managers are requiring us to hand everything over.

Is this normal and just the way things are now? Or is there still other places accepting things like the W2?

Thank you for your time! Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
