Question: Vehicle Theft Inspection

Hi All,

I'll try to keep it short and simple.

I bought a car about six months ago from a private seller. Just recently, I got a letter saying my title was being revoked because someone else, with the same VIN and supporting documentation, registered the car.

I spoke to a friend of a friend, who is an officer, and he basically told me I was sold a stolen vehicle.

Feeling irritated as hell, I checked the letter to see what my options were. Basically, they told me I would have to get it inspected and as required, I took the car to the Vehicle Theft Inspection location for them to check, and they ended up keeping it for investigation purposes.

The car has been insured under my name for the last six months as how in the heck would I know it was stolen? I’m definitely the victim here, but I’m stressed because I paid quite a bit for this car.

Can I expect something good from this or is this an SOL situation for me? Is there any chance I’ll get my money back or at least have the car properly registered to me?
