Question about using a real estate service/agent for second chance housing
Hi, I've recently moved to Houston last year and because of my background a friend recommended me to second chance housing. I'm currently subleasing in a friends apartment and the lease will be up soon. I'm also working with an apartment locator but the apartments I've been sent so far all have horrible reviews of theft/property damage/unresponsive maintenance, lack of security, and shady business practices. After doing some searches I've began to contact some people/establishments. I've come across a company called "The Vibe Locating Group" on Facebook, a real estate service, and after some browsing seems like they could be legit. I called and inquired and they gave me a website to fill out a form and get started. The form asks for a $100 fee so it seems like a scam to me. Is this normal? Because to my knowledge, real estate agents essentially work for free with no charges until paperwork is signed, please correct me if I'm wrong. Please advise if I should or shouldn't move forward with this process.
The website she sent me to is linktr.ee/rentbee and directed me to hit the 3rd option "Request a personalized second chance list" to fill out the form.
I know rentbee is reputable but this just doesn't feel right. Especially from a linktree address. Please let me know your thoughts, thanks.
