Question about traffic courts

It is my first time going to the traffic court (Houston municipal court). I am told to come at 8am and from my understanding, I may be end up staying there until 5pm. I am hearing stuff like I cannot use my phone during the entire time waiting for my session. Does that mean I will be waiting for my session from 8 to 5 sitting in front of the judge in the court room? I thought there would be a separate waiting room…
