PSA: Neighborly Advice for Parking Near the Zoo, Hermann Park, and the Museums
Hi all. I never really post but I've read enough (and seen enough) of people having issues with parking for the Zoo/Museums and wanted to try and help. Its that time of the year, the mini slice of time where Houston has pleasant outdoor weather. This means the parks are full and it culminates in the crazy that is Mother's day. Plus the summer camps are going to be starting soon at the Museums, adding to the traffic.
Long story short, if you are going to the Zoo/Park/Museums consider parking on the street by the Holocaust Museum, Children's Museum, or the Health Museum. Furthermore, there is a surface parking lot across the street from the Holocaust Museum that is fairly empty on the weekends. On Saturdays I can see a line trying to get into the Natural Science's garage that doesn't move, yet one or two streets down and to the left, an entire street worth of parking is empty. I always feel like if just 10% of those drivers utilized the street parking, thing would change significantly.
I've parked by the Health/Children's Museum before and walked to the Zoo with kids. Its about a .3 mile walk (you cut through the park). Its a nice walk. Fine Arts Museum? I use the surface lot or park near the Holocaust Museum. The funny thing is that people going to the Rodeo and want to park and take the train know all of this, but come spring time its forgotten until the park/museums get mega full and people park in the neighborhood again.
Really and honestly they should advertise all the different parking in the area, but I never see them do it. I feel like it would help out a ton for visitors and Houstonians alike. Good luck y'all!
