PSA: avoid "Sun Auto" like a plaque

They are buying all the small local car mechanics in the area. I used to frequent one place for an oil change a small mom and pop because they allowed me to bring my own fluids and parts and all they did is charge for the labour. Thus, i was able to make sure that i got good oil and WIX or Napa gold oil filters.

So i go to them few months ago and alas it's Sun Auto and a whole new team. But hey, i drove this far, might as well have an oil swap.

First they tried to upsell me on a brake and tranny flush. I declined both since i test my brake fluid once every 6 months and it's still good.

Anyhow i drive away and i don't look under the hood. After a week my brake light turns on. I pop the hood and the brake fluid cap is unacrwed and missing. Brake fluid is hydrophilic and with Houston humidity it was wrecked in no time.

So i have it flushed at another shop.

Fast forward 6 months the other shop that did a good job with the flush is now also Sun Auto and alas i need another oil change 12k miles. So i think to myself: "well a same name but different guys and you know, everyone can be absent minded and forget to close a cap"

This shop now wants to upsell me on AC recharge (it's a close system it doesn't need recharging unless there is a hole). I decline.

I drive away and a few min later i hear a rattle. I pull over and try to find it. Nada. I go to another shop for a quick check. Well they wedged a cartoon next to the fan so it would rattle but you could only find it if the car was lifted and you inspected the undercarriage.

Bad luck or purposeful? I don't know but i am not going back to ANY Sun Auto.
