Protest your property values AND urge your taxing units to lower the rates

In a rising market, property valuations can get sky high. That DOES NOT mean property taxes should also get sky high. One way to keep property taxes affordable is to urge taxing units to adopt "no-new-revenue tax rate" i.e, the “tax rate that would produce the same amount of taxes if applied to the same properties taxed in both years"

Protest, you should. Also, attend budget public hearings, where tax rates are adopted. For Harris county, this will be sometime in Aug/Sept. Hearings will generally be held in the commissioner's court.
