Pros and Cons of Sean Payton
Just trying to compile a list of pros and cons. Feel free to add anything that I may have missed, and I'll update the list. I essentially want to ask if the pros outweigh the cons
Pros:
- Super Bowl Winning Coach (would be the best coach we’d ever had)
- Top 23rd most winningest Head Coach in NFL history
- Free Agent recruiting: players want to play for Payton
- Easy way to put fans in seats/restore confidence in the fanbase by going for a proven Head Coach
- You can probably trust him to develop Bryce Young/CJ Stroud into achieving potential
- Saints drafted relatively well under his guidance
Cons/things to consider:
- Age (long-term option? Chances he might retire on us or go to broadcasting?)
- Is he the same coming back from retirement?
- Having to trade at least a first-round pick to acquire him for a team that needs talent in many positions
- How much success is Drew Brees? (Can he do well without elite QB talent? Maybe so as seen in the 2021 season?)
- Retired when New Orleans at a low point (questionable if he’s built for a rebuilding team)
