Property tax protest

Today my neighbor told me that almost everyone around me is filing tax protests. I’ve been living in this home for over 10 years and never done it. Can anyone who successfully protested tell me how does the process look like? Do you use one of these companies who do it for you? Any downsides of protesting? I’m probably too late this year, but thinking about the next year.
