Property Management Company Recommendations

I'm moving out of Houston and would like to keep my current home as a rental property.

1) Can anyone recommend a good property management company? I have searched the interwebz and spoke to a few but they are all wanting me to sign a contract up front. I would feel better with someone who will come out and do an on site inspection with an in person market evaluation and a make ready plan. Is that too much to ask?

2) Am I crazy for renting it out? I have heard the horror stories. But the RE market is soft and I dont have to sell to complete the move.

House is in 77084 (on edge of 77041). Has never flooded. 3/2.5, 2000 sq ft patio home. Mortgage + Escrow = $1100. Market rent ~$1800-2000.
