Procedures and paperwork when employee (wages) voluntarily resigns with advance notice

Hello,

I hope you all are staying warm and safe. My brother has an employee who works 40 hours a week on his farm at an hourly rate, he is on payroll and receives a W-2. He does not qualify for benefits.

The employee informed by brother that he will be relocating out of state in a few weeks.

Does anyone know what documentation/best practices etc. should be followed to document his voluntary resignation?

They are on good terms and he has been a good employee.

He will of course get paid his final paycheck no later than the next regularly scheduled payday following the work separation.
