Predicting which Texans WRs will have the most receiving yards in the 2023 season
The Texans' WR room features no true #1 option, several guys who are new to the team, and 3 players who have never taken an NFL snap. With the WR depth chart being so wide open, I thought it might be fun for us to try ranking the WRs by how many receiving yards they'll end up with by the end of the season. For my rankings, I'm only including the six players I think have the best chance to make the team, but if you want to include someone you think will be a contributor like Amari Rodgers, or if you're, uh, a big Jesse Matthews fan, you can put them on your list. I'm not including actual yardage predictions, just a straight up list of who I think will have the most yards to the least.
-
Nico Collins- I think Nico will finally beat the injury bug and play a (mostly) full season in 2023. This will be a crucial year for him, so I think he'll show out a bit; while I think he won't show #1 receiver potential, he'll prove that he can be a competent #2 guy in the league. I think he'll come in below 1000 yards though, so no 1000 yard receiver for the Texans in 2023.
-
Tank Dell- I'm really high on Tank, and even flirted with the idea of putting him in the #1 spot, but eventually thought better of it. He's probably the most dynamic receiver on the roster, but I think he'll run into rookie growing pains for the first half of the season and start figuring it out in the back half. I could see him emerging as C.J.'s favorite receiving option on game days.
-
Robert Woods- Woods will be an excellent veteran presence for our relatively young receiving room, and I think he'll have decent success on the field. However, it's rare for an entire position group to be injury-free for a whole season, so I think Bobby Trees will be the one hampered by injuries this time around.
-
Noah Brown- Brown should make this team based off of special teams alone. As a receiver, his best fit is as a 4th or 5th option, and I think that's about where he'll slot in for this squad. Brown will be a solid but unspectacular option for Stroud to go to.
-
John Metchie III- I hate to put Metchie this low, but I think the Texans will take things slow with him this year. I believe he'll show flashes of great play, but ultimately have his play time limited. I have Tank Dell taking over the slot position, so Metchie will likely have to play outside a lot, which is a little bit less to his strengths than the slot.
-
Xavier Hutchinson- I actually like Xavier quite a bit, but I don't think he'll be given too many opportunities this year. I do think he makes the roster and that the Texans carry 6 WRs, as putting him on the practice squad invites too much risk of another team poaching him. He'll mostly be a special teams guy, but he'll get more of a chance to show what he's got in year 2.
I'd love to see how you guys would do this ranking.
