Post game thoughts
It's preseason so its important not to overanalyze things or assign much value to the outcome, but below are some thoughts I had after the game:
– Over the past 6 months we've hyped up all the good/promising things Mills does to the point that we forgot he's still very unproven and was at times really bad last year. Things felt more difficult for Mills than they should have yesterday given the circumstances (playing against backups)
– Tytus Howard looked really good and was easily our best lineman out there. This has me excited
– The throw Mills made to Dorsett to setup the Collins TD was incredible. Rifled the ball 35 yards downfield on a rope between the CB and safety. There was almost no margin for error on the throw and Mills put it in perfectly. Incredible concentration by Dorsett to catch the ball and maintain possession with 2 feet down
– Overall Mills seemed a bit rattled and missed several easy throws, but he showed enough for me to not be concerned..the talent is definitely there, but it's not a guarantee that he's going to make the leap we all think he is
– the front 7 on the other hand did exactly what they were supposed to do going given the circumstances and dominated their oline. We probably blitzed a bit more than what would be expected in a preseason game, but love to see it
– I'm super hyped for Nico Collins and will 100% be drafting him late in all my fantasy leagues. He's much bigger than I remember and looks like a guy who could legitimately develop into a #1 this year or next. Great draft pick
– Dorsett continues to impress me. There's a reason he was a 1st round pick. Him and Mills clearly have good chemistry and I think he should be our 3rd WR
– I didnt think Mack looked as bad as others on this subreddit, but obviously Pierce should be the guy
– Dare Ogunowale was really impressive and Royce Freeman can def still play as well. Rex Burkhead probably shouldnt make this team
– Lovie Smith and the defense are definitely ahead of the offense. This is how it was last year so this isnt a surprise, but if our offense doesnt get more explosive theres no way we win more than 5 games this year
– Kyle Allen is a really solid backup QB, glad we signed him
– Jon Greenard, Roy Lopez, Kirksey and Grugier Hill all looked really good. We probably have the most 'no-name' defense in the NFL, but i think these guys have a chance to get a lot of recognition this year
– Thomas Booker was a good draft pick. He was our best dlineman in the 2nd half and will definitely be a big part of our rotation this year
– Our Dline depth is the best its been since 2019. I still think we're going to be a bottom 10 rush defense, but we have some interesting personnel packages and a lot of solid pass rushers
– Stingley had 1 good pass break up and had a few moments where he looked lost in coverage. Glad hes getting to play and knock the rust off. He's physically very impressive and I'm pumped for him to be on the team
– Didnt watch Pitre very closely, but seems like he's continuing to ball
– Glad to see Kaimi making extra points
– I dont understand why we haven't brought in a veteran tight end yet
– There's definitely a lot of good vibes from the team and it seems like everyone's bought in. Obviously we played more starters and this game meant way more to the Texans than it did to the Rams, but winning together the way we have is going to help the team become closer
