Poll: Will You Dine Out at Houston Restaurants That Won’t Require Masks?

Next week, restaurants in Houston and across the state of Texas will be able to expand indoor dining room capacities to 100 percent, and the state’s mask mandate is officially a thing of the past.

Even though a number of the city’s restaurants are planning to continue enforcing social distancing measures and requiring staff and patrons to wear masks, some won’t. That scenario, walking into a restaurant at 100 percent capacity that’s full of unmasked people, leaves Houston diners with an important question: should I dine out at an establishment that won’t require masks?

Back in November, Eater surveyed readers on whether or not they felt comfortable dining indoors while the mask mandate was still in effect, and a majority of respondents indicated that sitting in a dining room just didn’t feel safe. After a year of staying at home, though, it’s almost certain that many Texans will make their way back into restaurants and bars in the coming weeks in the absence of these restrictions.
