Poisonous Snakes at Apartment Complex
So, we discovered there are poisonous snakes at an apartment complex in the Houston area. Our puppy was bit by one of these snakes and, thank the universe he lived after all nighter at an animal hospital, but wasn’t left unscathed. This is a new “luxury” apartment complex and we’ve had a difficult time addressing even minor issues. The only way to address an issue is to go to the leasing office to talk to someone and even then it’s no guarantee that will attend to your issue. They just write notes. I called them about the poisonous snakes but they didn’t answer so I left a voicemail. I’m going to give them a day to respond before I go there in person. I feel like landlords have a duty of care towards residents and they are expected to use reasonable care to discover dangerous conditions on their property and correct the issue even if it they just put up a sign warning residents.
Am I overreacting? What can I do if the complex doesn’t respond to me or deal with it? And should I alert the community about it? There are a lot of kids at the property. This happened right next to the dog park so this definitely could happen again not only to a curious dog but an unsuspecting person.
Edit: Thank you for all the replies! I needed a reality check on the situation and I certainly got some! I don’t expect the complex to take any extra measures nor do I blame them. I pay a monthly pest control (whatever that includes) but i don’t think includes snake repellent especially if it’s toxic. I I have been informing people I see in the dog park that was a snake in the area and just to be aware. I’ve taken the situation into my own hands and I got pet safe repellent and ultrasonic stakes to see if that will help. The snake wasn’t in the grass, but rather hiding out behind the patio furniture on the concrete patio. I’ve lived in Texas for 10 years and never had a snake problem, knock on wood. I’m just sorry my pup had to go through this but he’s doing just fine. The venom wasn’t detected in his blood work.
