poisonous frogs/toads?

I’m in Richmond and we get toads (?) in our area. My dog loves chasing them/sniffing them. I was wondering if anyone knew what species they are (or if there are multiple) and if they are poisonous? I don’t know how to get rid of them… we’ll go days without any and then all of a sudden 4-5 babies will show up, then nothing the next night. I keep an eye on him but want to be sure I’m prepared for an emergency if something happens.
