Pipefitters Local 211 HVAC apprenticeship

I’ll be applying to Pipefitters 211 HVAC apprenticeship this year. I’ve been working new construction HVAC for two months and I’m very excited about going far in this trade. My goal is to go into commercial and BAS/controls. From what I’ve researched it looks like I can work in and be trained in these fields through this union. I’ve looked a bit into unions and I love what they stand for and what they’ve historically done for the people.

However, I know the reality of the situation might not be so neat and tidy. I’m aware of some possible drawbacks of joining a union such as scarce work, favoritism, low quality training and opportunities, etc. Not to mention Texas being anti-union and all that. Despite that, I think it’s a very beneficial (if not the most beneficial) option I have.

So for anyone familiar with Pipefitters 211. What’s your experience been? How good are the training and employment? Is it/was it worth it? Even better if you were/are involved in their HVAC training but any commentary or advice is appreciated!
