Picks over proven players on rookie deals…why?
I get wanting as many firsts as possible. But understand 50% will be busts. Rick Smith wasn’t super but I think he gave Houston and unrealistic expectation of first round picks.
I see everyone saying “got to have more firsts”… why not ask for really good players on rookie deals. It’s better than a first because you already know they worked out. They’re on the same deals as the rookie you would draft.
Guys like Brian Burns, Mechi Becton, Jeremey Chinn, Javon Kinlaw etc…. why would a 1st be better than a 1st rounder who’s already proven? They would also go a long way towards a quicker turnaround and establishing a core group will make it easier to attract FAs after this mess.
Just curious.
