Photo spot recommendations

I will be traveling to do some photography work at the convention center next week. I will have quite a bit of free time and would love to check out some cool spots in the area for some street and portrait photography. Do you guys have any recommendations for good photo spots in the downtown area. I will be staying in a hotel by the convention center so preferably within a 10 mile radius.
