People are so horrible to animals.

I'm a truck driver, live in Conroe, work out of La Porte and driver the US. On my way to Seguin I stop at a rest area for a break. Come out of the restrooms and see this Husky tied to a tree out by the parking. It didn't look right. She looked so elegant patiently sitting there, waiting. I asked several people if the dog was theirs and all said no. I sat on a bench for a few minutes and the attendant came by and I asked him about the dog. He said it had been there since he came on shift at 6am, it's now 730 and the temps are creeping into the 90's. Poor dog was so emaciated just a bag of bones. She'd not too long ago had pups, her teats were pretty well dried up. My assumption is that a POS breeder used her up for puppies and kicked her to the curb. I walked her out to my truck, she seems leash trained. She seemed familiar with vehicles. House broken, she let me know she needed to go by pawing my leg. I used to have a truck dog, so I still have some dry dog food on my truck. I fed her about a 1/2cup wetted down. She's sick though, could be something that was fed to her eatlier or any number of other illnesses, she couldn't hold anything in, front or back. ASPCA wanted me to make an appointment to check her out to see if they would even take her in: by what I gather, they only take in dogs that are adoptable or rescue from on-site abuse. There is a Husky rescue but they will only help if you can prove ownership. I hate to say this, but my only option was to take her to an animal shelter. La Porte Animal Shelter. And thanks to them for taking her when I'm not a resident and the dog was not found in La Porte. Yes, I know they euthanize, but if she can be saved I hope she can be adopted out. If not, then euthanasia is far better than her starving to death, dieing from the heat and/or dehydration or being run over on the highway. submitted by /u/Doppleganger1064 |
