Parking near Main street

Hi All, we shall be visiting Houston around New year eve/New year day. Can someone let know where to park near Main street /Lynn watt square ? Last year when we visited all the open parking lots in road are taken up and the garages looked sketchy. One of our friend received a penalty notice after months even after paying the parking. We dont mind walking short distance. Any pointers or guidance is appreciated.
