It’s going to be absurdly hot this weekend. Please take extra care to stay cool and out of the sun. Is there any interest in me sending this out as a weekly email? Comicpalooza Comicpalooza returns to the George R. Brown Convention Center July 15-17 for a weekend of anime, comics, gaming, literature, cosplay and more! If you’ve ever wanted to meet Ben Browder or the T1000 here’s your chance.

Ongoing – Undersea Discovery @ Houston Zoo Take a journey through the ocean to see animatronic marine creatures in an exhibit never before seen in the U.S. Experience the ocean from the rocky coast to the deepest sea and observe some of the most amazing marine creatures in the world, right here in Houston.

Ongoing – MC Escher Virtual Realities exhibit @ MFAH – The MFAH hosts the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of works by M.C. Escher ever presented. Virtual Realities features more than 400 prints, drawings, watercolors, printed fabrics, constructed objects, wood and linoleum blocks, lithographic stones, sketchbooks, and the artistā€™s working tools.

Ongoing – Dreher Masterworks @ – HMNS Created by four generations of masters from the Dreher family in Idar-Oberstein, Germany these exquisite pieces are brought to life using ruby, sapphire, aquamarine, topaz and other rare gemstones.

Floral Painting Class @ Houston Botanic Garden @ 10AM Maker / artist Cassie Smith will share basic techniques, color theory, and more to help participants step-by-step as they create their own unique and beautiful floral paintings. Canvases, brushes, and paints provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own favorite acrylic set, as well.

Vertigo: One. One & One @ Miller Outdoor Theater @ 8:30PM One. One & One is a stunning piece by Artistic Director Noa Wertheim that revolves around the individualā€™s inner need to be whole. One & One was created in celebration of Vertigoā€™s 25 Anniversary, and its recent engagement at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York was just nominated for a Bessie Award.

Animal Collective with Sham @ White Oak Music Hall @ 8:00PM Experimental Pop/psych rock band returns to Houston.

St Arnold downtown pub crawl @ Market Square park @ 2PM The fun begins at 2 p.m. at participating Historic District bars. Event goers have until 6 p.m. to visit all the stops along the way before reporting back to Market Square Park for their official Saint Arnold pint glass and celebrating a job well done with live music and Greek eats from Niko Nikoā€™s.
