Opinions about midtown houston, I’d it safe? A nice neighborhood?

Does anyone have any data about it or personal anecdotes?

I really liked the area but my dads friend said his cars tires were stolen once when he parked in a gated garage over night there and called the area “ghetto bad area”.

For context I am an international student finally moving to Houston (been doing it online through the pandemic)

Out of everywhere it made the most sense for me since it has the rail and the prices were cheaper than EaDo (which appeared more sketchy to me).

So as locals would y’all say it’s dangerous or sketchy?

Edit: forgot to add that my father won’t help me with rent if it’s a ‘sketchy’ area. I know ironic coming from Mexico lol
