Open letter to Cal McNair

To Mr. Cal McNair,

Under your watch, the Houston Texans have become the laughingstock of the NFL. A lack of leadership and stability from the top, from you, has allowed egomaniacal and under-qualified individuals to disrupt our front office, decimate our franchise's reputation, and deplete our team’s assets. Multiple poor personnel decisions, the refusal to listen to the fans and players, and the continued employment of Jack Easterby are just a few of the problems.

As a Texans fan from the beginning, I remember the years of mediocrity. Our play may have been substandard, but I took comfort knowing we were a respected team with a high character front office. Since the passing of Mr. Bob McNair, this has changed. Our front office is managed by under-qualified Machiavellians whose blunders have allowed our franchise to become the centerpiece for sports gossip.

Thus, to remedy this embarrassment, Jack Easterby must be terminated, and you must take a step back from the operations. Your relationship with Easterby has clouded your business decisions, and his continued employment as VP of Football Operations is a folly. When all of your fans, all of the media, and the greatest Texan of all time calls for his firing, and you respond that our criticism is unjustified, you are clearly out of touch. An article published in the Houston Chronicle once said, “the McNairs wanted to be owners to whom fans could relate and, plainly, owners whom fans liked.” This was the case under Mr. Bob McNair’s tenure but has not been for yours. I’m sure your late father would be disappointed at the disdain you have shown for your fans and players.

If you continue to ignore those who allow the Texans to be profitable, you risk facing an unprecedented boycott. There is an extraordinary number of fans willing to trade the Texans for a different team directly because of your inaction. If you care about the Texans, and you care about your father's legacy, please hire a competent front office and allow them to run the show. You are at a tipping point and will have soon dismantled what your father created. Think carefully and act decisively, only you can correct what is happening. Thank you.

Sincerely, A Disappointed Life-Long Fan
