Online registration

Hey Houstonians, I had a really quick question. I’m getting mixed/unclear answers regarding renewing my registration online. It says I can renew it online “12 months after the expiration date”. Does this mean I can renew it online UP to 12 months after expiring or AFTER 12 months of it expiring? It’s a stupid question but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
